Life Underground by Tom Otterness bronze sculptures created in 2000 poke fun at New Yorkers and the obsession with money. The characters are reminiscent of the Monopoly man of the 30s. They are allover the station trying to do different things.
The monument at the center, created by Italian sculptor Gaetano Russo, is the point at which distances to and from New York City are officially measured.It was erected as part of New York's 1892 commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' first voyage to the Americas.
